Do college teachers need a B.Ed. Degree?

Recently I heard an Assistant Professor from a college arguing that college teachers don’t need any training in teaching (no need for a B.Ed. Degree) because passing the UGC NET examination is sufficient testimony for their competency in teaching at the graduate and post graduate level.

I wanted to intervene but then very soon I realized the fact that he had a fixed mindset and wouldn’t accept any other line of thought.

I pondered on this and the thought that came to my mind was few questions.
Will you enter a bus if the driver does not have a license and is not trained in driving?
Will you board an aircraft which does not have a trained pilot?
Will you go to a doctor who does not have a medical degree?
Then how can we educated people send our kids to teachers who do not have a teaching degree or trained for the profession?

I guess since the returns from education has longer gestation period and the result is not identified immediately the devastating effect goes unnoticed. But who will take the responsibility for the future of the generation who was moulded in the hands of inexperienced untrained beginners in college?
